How to Disable Quick Settings in Windows 11

Learn how to turn off the Quick Settings panel in Windows 11 using Group Policy Editor or Registry Editor, and customize your taskbar experience.

How to Disable Quick Settings in Windows 11

Windows 11 introduced the Quick Settings panel as a convenient way to access commonly used settings like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and volume controls. However, some users may prefer to disable this feature for various reasons, such as simplifying their taskbar or preventing accidental changes. This guide will walk you through two methods to remove Quick Settings in Windows 11.

Method 1: Using Group Policy Editor

The Group Policy Editor is a powerful tool for managing Windows settings, but it’s only available in Windows 11 Pro, Enterprise, and Education editions. If you’re using one of these versions, follow these steps:

Step 1: Open the Group Policy Editor by pressing Win + R, typing gpedit.msc, and pressing Enter.

Step 2: In the Group Policy Editor window, navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar.

Step 3: On the right side, find and double-click on the “Remove Quick Settings” policy.

Step 4: In the policy settings window, select “Enabled” and click “OK” to apply the change.

Step 5: Restart your computer or sign out and sign back in for the changes to take effect.

After completing these steps, the Quick Settings panel will be disabled, and you won’t be able to access it from the taskbar or by using the Win + A shortcut.

Method 2: Using Registry Editor

If you’re using Windows 11 Home or prefer to make changes directly to the registry, you can use this method. However, be cautious when editing the registry, as incorrect changes can cause system issues.

Step 1: Before proceeding, create a backup of your registry. Open the Start menu, type “Registry Editor,” and run it as an administrator.

Step 2: In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows

Step 3: Right-click on the Windows key, select New > Key, and name it “Explorer”.

Step 4: With the Explorer key selected, right-click in the right pane, choose New > DWORD (32-bit) Value, and name it “DisableControlCenter”.

Step 5: Double-click on the newly created DisableControlCenter value and set its value data to 1.

Step 6: Click OK to save the change, then close the Registry Editor.

Step 7: Restart your computer or sign out and sign back in for the changes to take effect.

After completing these steps, the Quick Settings panel will be disabled on your Windows 11 system.

Reverting Changes

If you decide you want to re-enable Quick Settings, you can easily undo the changes:

For the Group Policy method, set the “Remove Quick Settings” policy to “Not Configured”.

For the Registry method, either delete the DisableControlCenter value or set its data to 0.

Remember to restart your computer or sign out and sign back in after making these changes.

Disabling Quick Settings can streamline your Windows 11 experience, but it also means you’ll need to access these settings through other means. Make sure you’re comfortable navigating to individual settings pages before turning off this feature.
